Position Overview:
Principal Process Engineer leads and controls process engineering activities. Principal Process Engineer perform checking and review all data requested by Client for approval and provide assessments on performance of engineers. Principal Process Engineer ensures that engineering work and deliverables in the process discipline are accurate and correct to code, standard and project specification. Principal Process Engineer shall be able to analysis to identify optimal solution and communicate these solutions through technical reports. This role may require frequent travel to the US, Europe, and Asia.
The ideal candidate of the position will have a strong background in Offshore Oil & Gas Industry, be an expert in Topsides Process Engineering, and provide strategic focus in the Topsides Process Engineering for Conceptual/pre-FEED/FEED/EPC(I) projects being bid in the offshore area. This will include FPSO’s, FLNG as well as other Fixed and Floating platforms/facilities.
The strategic focus will also include providing support to Hanwha Ocean engineering teams based at Houston/Seoul/Amsterdam and elsewhere as necessary including Conceptual, pre-FEED and FEED for projects in the offshore area in the future
Key Responsibilities:
- Understand project requirement, scope of work and project schedule.
- Supervise Senior and Junior Process Engineer performance from the beginning to end of project.
- Ensure all engineering documents are prepared and developed in accordance with relevant design code, standard and client’s project specification.
- Provide engineering expertise and support or report to Manager of Process to ensure engineering progress meets time line.
- Ensure process and utility system are optimized, efficient, safe and environmentally compliant.
Assist in Project in Bidding or FEED Stage
- Provide engineering review and support for bid proposal including estimate of manhour and cost.
- Conduct feasibility studies, FEED, FEED Verification
Process Engineering
- To develop process calculations, studies and deliverables
- Review process simulation and result, including heat and material balances (HYSYS, etc.) for the accuracy of calculation
- Review all process engineering package and deliverables (Sizing, Calculation, Report, PFD, PID and etc.).
Participation in Various Workshop.
- Chair HAZOP, Vendor HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, Design Review and etc.
- Lead engineers to close out of comment/punches/recommendation from HAZOP, Vendor HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, Design Review and etc.
- Manage and report status of comment/recommendations
Control 3rd party and sub-contractor.
- For special process study, contract, selection through technical evaluation of 3rd party
- Manage 3rd Party workscope and review/comment/approve of 3rd Party’s output..
- Control sub-contractor for their performance and check quality of diagram from sub-contractor
Participation and Support for Commissioning and Start-up
- Develop/review relevant philosophies and procedure
- Provide engineering support for construction, commissioning and operation team
Management of Engineering
- Ensure that process engineering output align with project objective, schedule and budget.
- Generate regular progress reports
- Report engineering outstanding and concern to Discipline Manager with technical summaries of outstanding issues
Problem Solving and Addressing Engineering Concerns
- Provide engineering expertise for decision making to resolve process related issue
- Address engineering punches/comment
Coordination and Communication
- Lead engineering meeting with client, engineering sub-contractor and generate MOM.
- Coordination with detailed engineering consultant or client, vendors and sub-contractors
- Manage interface with all relevant discipline to get necessary information for process engineering or to provide data to other discipline for their engineering
- Raise technical query, RFI (Request for Information) and etc. to get necessary information/Client’s approval.
- Provide clarification/answer to Client’s request
Monitoring and Mentoring
- Teach, instruct and guide less experienced Process Engineers.
Qualifications:
- At least Bachelor Degree or Master Degree in Petroleum or Chemical Engineering discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent certification is a plus.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in process engineering in the offshore oil and gas industry
- Extensive knowledge of process engineering practices, principles, industry codes and standards – as well as an understanding of scientific methods of problem-solving.
- Proven track record of success in developing and performing Topsides Process Conceptual / Feasibility Studies during pre-FEED/FEED or tender stage. Prior experience with FPSO or FLNG design development and/or engineering project delivery (e.g. at a top-tier FPSO contractor) will be preferred.
- Strong understanding with offshore industry terminology, concepts, and practices.
- Knowledge of class rule, recognized code, standard and skill of process engineering tools such as Aspen HYSYS, Flarenet, Pipe-net or equivalent and ability to interpret result of process simulation
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, with strong attention to detail and accuracy. ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to work with and to communicate effectively with co-workers, vendors, clients and manage multiple priorities.
- Fluency in English
