Position Overview:
The Principal Mechanical Engineer – Rotating Equipment in the Topsides Mechanical Equipment Discipline is a senior technical expert responsible for leading complex engineering projects and providing advanced technical guidance in the field of rotating equipment. This role involves developing innovative engineering solutions, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and mentoring junior engineers. The Principal Mechanical Engineer – Rotating Equipment plays a crucial role in project execution, from initial design through to final implementation, and acts as a key technical interface with clients and stakeholders. This role may require frequent travel to the US, Europe and/or Asia.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide advanced expertise and knowledge to select rotary machinery during the conceptual design / proposal phase and conduct specific studies during the basic and detailed engineering phases.
- Preparation and checking of engineering deliverables such as specifications, datasheets, RFQs, TBEs for pumps, compressors, gas turbines, engines and other machinery on offshore facilities.
- Review of vendor proposals, prepare technical bid clarifications, attend clarification meetings. Review and approve vendor data and deliverables
- Provide technical expertise in the field of Rotating Equipment Engineering and provide advice during the conceptual, basic and detailed engineering phases.
- Provide expertise input for risk assessment in engaging with vendors, conduct manufacturing facilities visit to gather information that support detailed engineering activities, and to obtain feedback on manufacturing limitations, testing, lead times, IMR, etc.
- Develop standard specifications and procedures related to the design, manufacturing, supply, installation, commissioning and operations and/or integrity management for rotating equipment.
- Participate in project planning, scheduling, and progress tracking.
- Assist in resolving technical issues during the fabrication, installation and commissioning phases.
- Provide guidance and support to junior engineers and designers.
- Review and approve the work of less experienced team members to ensure quality and accuracy.
- Troubleshoot and solve technical problems encountered during project execution.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and technical discussions to ensure robust engineering solutions.
- To answer general queries arising from clients, contractors or internal company departments on aspects related to rotating equipment.
- To prepare formal responses to comments from classification societies and clients on specifications, drawings, etc.
- Coordinate with fabrication, installation, commissioning and operations teams to resolve technical issues and ensure smooth execution of projects.
- Maintain accurate records of design changes, decisions, and project milestones.
- Ensure all documentation is complete and compliant with project requirements and quality management systems.
- Prepare project schedules, budgets, and progress reports to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Qualifications:
- At least Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required. Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with significant experience in leading complex engineering projects in the offshore oil and gas industry.
- Extensive knowledge of rotating equipment engineering practices, principles, industry codes and standards – as well as an understanding of scientific methods of problem-solving.
- Proven track record of success in developing and performing rotating equipment conceptual/feasibility studies during pre-FEED/FEED or tender stage. Prior experience with FPSO or FLNG design development and/or engineering project delivery (e.g. at a top-tier FPSO contractor) will be preferred.
- Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering engineering projects within scope, schedule, and budget.
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, practices, and standards.
- Proficiency in engineering software and tools for design, analysis, and simulation od rotating equipment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges.
- Strong leadership abilities with experience in mentoring and developing engineering talent.
- Excellent project management skills, including the ability to plan, execute, and monitor project activities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously, ensuring high-quality outcomes.
- Proven ability to handle complex design tasks independently and effectively
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly and concisely.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with clients, stakeholders, and team members. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.

- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is advantageous.
