Mission
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Head of Aircraft Design to lead the aircraft design activities and oversee the integration of all aircraft systems, structures, and propulsion components for our E9X battery-electric aircraft. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in overall aircraft design, with a proven track record of leading successful projects. This role requires a visionary leader who can drive our integration programs for aerospace applications, integrate the various subsystems of the aircraft at vehicle level, build and manage a talented team, and contribute to the advancement of our electric aircraft technology.
What We’re Looking For
Tech Expertise, Innovation and Program Development:
- Specify the top-level aircraft requirements and oversee the aircraft design process.
- Formulate the aircraft performance specifications.
- Ensure compliance with certification requirements throughout the integration process.
- Manage the integration of all aircraft subsystems, including the airframe, propulsion system, flight controls, landing gear, etc.
Partnership & Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate with design engineers, quality teams, cost engineers, and manufacturing teams to ensure a high-performance and cost-effective aircraft design.
- Coordinate with other engineering departments to ensure a well-oiled interface between the various disciplines and the overall aircraft design.
- Lead cross-functional teams to resolve integration challenges and optimize overall aircraft performance.
Purposeful Leadership & Team Building
- Manage the aircraft design and performance team, including setting goals, assigning tasks, and mentoring team members.
- Stay abreast of emerging propulsion technologies and industry trends, incorporating relevant advancements into Elysian’s propulsion strategy.
- Develop and manage project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation for propulsion-related activities.
Experience
- 10+ years of experience in aircraft design and integration, preferably including some years of experience on the development of hybrid/electric aircraft.
- Proven experience in managing complex technical projects and delivering results on time and within budget.
- Basic understanding of all the main aircraft systems.
- Extensive experience with (conceptual) aircraft design methodologies.
- 5+ years of experience leading engineering teams and managing complex projects.
Desired Qualifications
- Master’s or PhD degree in aerospace engineering or related field.
- Excellent project management and communication skills.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills, with a track record of building and leading high-performing teams.
- Proven ability to think strategically and execute methodically.
- Proficiency in the use of project management tools and software.
- Excellent communication in English.
- Experience in the electric aircraft industry is a plus.
- Effective communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to various stakeholders.
- Deep understanding of the aerospace industry, with a network of industry contacts.
- Strong technical project and program management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
- Strong knowledge of aircraft design and integration.
